Recoil springs for Colt 1911 series pistols are available in both conventional and variable power designs. Please refer to our FAQ section for information on conventional vs. variable design. Each Wolff recoil spring for Colt pistols includes an extra power firing pin spring. Recoil Calibration Paks are available offering a range of spring weights to tune your pistols recoil function. All springs are produced from Wolff proprietary HTCS spring material except as noted.

The 3 most popular 1911 recoil springs are also available in chrome silicone material. While chrome silicone is an excellent material, it is a softer material and does not offer the tensile strength of our proprietary HTCS spring material (the material from which most of our springs are produced from). We now offer these spings due do customer requests.

   1. Factory rating for super .38 & 9mm is 14 Lbs.
   2. Factory rating in .40 S&W is 19 Lbs.
   3. Factory rating for the Colt .38 Spl. Midrange is 14 Lbs. 
   4. Factory rating for the Colt Ace .22 conversion is 14 Lbs.

CONVENTIONAL RECOIL SPRINGS - .45 ACP

• Reduced Power...: 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 Lb.
• Factory Standard.: 16 Lb.
• Extra Power........: 17, 18.5, 20, 22, 23, 24, 26, & 28 Lb

Recoil calibration paks are offered to allow the shooter a choice of recoil springs to calibrate the recoil function when the correct spring rating is not known. These paks offer a savings of 20% over the same purchase of individual springs. The shooter starts with the strongest spring in the pak and works down until the desired recoil function is obtained.

Longslide modifications to 1911 pistols often require a longer than normal recoil spring. Wolff longslide recoil springs are designed for use in pistols with recoil spaces up to 3" (when slide is in full recoil position). 5 different strength recoil springs are available denoted as #1 thru #5. Due to the custom nature of these modifications, no rating for these springs is possible. The #1 recoil spring is the strongest and #5 is the lightest. Fitting of these springs is required. Professional installation suggested.

This pak contains 1 each of the above longslide recoil springs #1 thru #5 to allow complete customization of the recoil function.  Three extra power firing pin springs are also included.

Hammer springs are available in a variety of weights to allow adjustment of the trigger/let-off to individual needs. Hammer spring paks are recommended when exact poundage desired in unknown and offer a savings over individually purchased springs.

Stock No. 26520 - Reduced Power Pak - This pak contains 1 each of 19, 20 and 21 pound reduced hammer springs listed above, allowing adjustment of the firearm to individual requirements.

Stock No. 26521 - Reduced Power Pak - This pak contains 1 each of 15, 16 and 17 pound reduced hammer springs listed above, allowing tuning of the firearm for competition shooters.

Stock No. 11410 - Master Hammer Spring Pak - This pak contains 1 each of 18, 19, 20 and 21 pound reduced power, 23 pound factory standard and 25, 26, 28 and 30 pound extra power hammer springs above. This pak allows complete adjustment of Colt pistols to almost any need.

Wolff sear springs for Colt pistols are high quality replacement springs designed to original factory specifications. Springs are original 3-finger design and operate the sear, trigger return and grip safety. An important spring for any tune-up job. Will also fit many Colt copies.

Colt Series 70, 80 & 90 - 1911, 1911A1, 1991, Government, Delta Elite, Officers, MKIV, Defender and many copies.

Magazine springs for the above Colt pistols are available in a variety of load ratings to accommodate almost any shooting requirement.

Extra power (XP) magazine springs are recommended for use with full power loads especially when using extra power recoil springs. Extra power magazine springs assure smooth feeding and proper cartridge seating. In addition to the traditional extra power magazine springs.

Reduced power (RP) magazine springs are available for Colt pistols. These springs are intended for use only with compensated pistols and/or with very light ammunition loads. Reduced power magazine springs lessen the cartridge pressure on the underside of the slide to improve functioning in low recoil energy situations. 

Use of reduced power magazine springs with full power ammunition will cause functioning problems.

7 ROUND 1911/COMMANDER & 6 ROUND OFFICERS - .45 ACP

NOTICE: Will not properly function in new production Colt 8 round magazines with front and rear vertical support tabs. Use of this spring with the new Colt follower will only allow for 7 rounds to be loaded into the magazine. This spring is for use with the McCormick pattern follower with a single rear vertical support tab.

Newer 1911 Government & Commander .45 ACP models have a standard factory magazine capacity of 8 rounds and the Officers Model is 7 rounds. These 5% extra power magazine springs help improve feeding and function. Also for use in McCormick/Shooting Star 8/7 round magazines.

These magazine springs are for use in  8 round .45 ACP ACT-MAG magazines only. Currently, our Wolff 8 round .45 magazines (#32770 & #32771) use this spring. This spring is also used in ACT-MAG magazines sold by Taurus, Novak and PSI. Spring is a two-step design with the top coils shorter than the bottom coils.

These extra long, extra coil magazine springs for Colt single stack .45 Caliber magazines have a total of 18 coils. Springs are intended for repair of custom magazines. Fitting is required. Note: Not intended to increase the capacity of standard 7 round magazine to 8 rounds.

Springs are for +10% extra power for .40 S&W  8 round 1911/Commander single stack magazines.

These springs are for use in .38 Super  9 round 1911/Commander magazines.

These springs are for use in 9mm  9 round 1911/Commander magazines.

Magazine catch springs are available in reduced, standard and extra power to adjust the release function to accomodate most any situation.


MAGAZINE CATCH SPRING PAK - REDUCED POWER
This pak contains 4 different reduced power magazine catch springs identified as #1 (strongest that is lighter than OEM) through #4 (lightest overall) and 1 factory strength magazine catch spring for a total of 5 springs. Springs allow fine tuning of the magazine release - essential for competition.

Reduced power magazine catch springs #1 - #4, described above, are available individually.

Wolff Extra Power magazine catch springs are approximately 10% stronger than factory springs.  Use where accidental release of magazine is a problem.

Factory strength replacement magazine catch springs.

Wolff Extra Power firing pin springs are a must in Colt pistols prior to the inclusion of the firing pin safety mechanism and are highly recommended in all pistols. These springs are approximately 40% stronger than the factory springs and provide an increased margin of safety by helping to reduce the chance of accidental discharge due to the firing pin contacting the cartridge primer in the event of dropping the pistol in a loaded condition or from the increased inertia imposed on the firing pin with extra power recoil springs. Every Colt pistol should have an extra power firing pin spring installed even when shooting the lightest loads. All Wolff load-rated Colt recoil springs are packaged with this spring.  Original factory springs are also available.

In addition, we now offer Extra Extra Power firing pin springs.  These springs are approximately 85% stronger than original factory firing pin springs.  These springs are used to provide a greater margin of safety, particularly when trying to meet certain drop test requirements.

These springs are replacement firing pin safety springs used in all 80 & 90 series pistols with firing pin lock safety.

For use in:
Colt 1911, 1911A1, 1991, Gov't, MKIV, and Gold Cup series pistols. Please choose by caliber as magazine springs are caliber specific.

Type I - contains the following factory specification springs: factory weight recoil spring, firing pin spring (extra power), hammer spring, magazine catch spring, plunger tube spring, firing pin safety spring and sear spring.

TYPE II contains all of the springs described in the Type I pak above plus a magazine spring.  The .45 Service Pak II contains a 10 pound extra power 7 round magazine spring.  The 9mm and .38 Super Service Paks II contain a 7.5 Lb. extra power magazine spring.
